Why do you think Poe wrote this story about this strange nightmare? Knowing some of his background, come up with a reason this may have been written, possibly relating it to facts about his life that you may know.
Choose one of the following characters: Hester Prynne or Arthur Dimmesdale. Choose one scene in the story, tell what the setting is, and write about your feelings during that scene with you being the character you chose. Think about how it would feel to be that character.
